Just under a week before compulsory vaccination comes into force, about 17 percent of adult Austrians are still completely unvaccinated. However, a good 85,000 adults have been vaccinated against the coronavirus for the first time in the past two weeks, according to Health Ministry figures obtained by APA. According to the figures, 83 percent of those aged 18 and older have received at least one vaccination, and 80 percent have been fully vaccinated. The final decision on compulsory vaccination for Austrians aged 18 and over will be taken next week by the Bundesrat, the provincial chamber of parliament. After that, the law must be countersigned by the Federal President and published in the Federal Law Gazette, after which it officially comes into force – all formal acts in themselves, but in view of the controversial nature of the matter, they will probably receive somewhat more attention than usual.
Carinthia and Salzburg have the most catching up to do. In Carinthia (as of Friday), only just under 78 percent of adults have a valid vaccination certificate. This is followed by Salzburg with just over 78 percent, Vorarlberg with 79 percent, and Vienna and Tyrol, which are in line with the Austrian average at 80 percent. In Styria, 81 percent of adults are vaccinated, in Lower Austria 83 percent and in Burgenland 86 percent.
